Presenter Biography:

Knicole Emanuel, JD, has devoted more than 23 years to a health care litigation practice, with a focus on Medicare and Medicaid litigation, health care regulatory compliance, administrative law, and regulatory law. She possesses a deep understanding of the complex Medicare and Medicaid payment system, the distinctive business of health care providers, the interplay of federal and state Medicare and Medicaid regulations, and the actions of state agencies that impact the operations of health care entities.

Knicole has considerable experience trying administrative cases, having argued over 2,000 cases in more than 30 states, and has also appeared before multiple states’ medical boards. In numerous states, she has successfully obtained federal injunctions that enabled health care providers to continue operating despite accusations of health care fraud, inappropriate billing, and data mining. Throughout the United States, Knicole frequently delivers presentations on health care law, the ramifications of the Affordable Care Act, and regulatory compliance for providers, such as physicians, home health and hospice providers, dentists, chiropractors, hospitals, and durable medical equipment providers. She is also a weekly panelist on RAC Monitor, where she serves as a resource and commentator on Medicare and Medicaid audits.

Melissa Scott, JD, focuses her practice on employment, healthcare, and commercial litigation. She has experience defending employers in cases involving discrimination and retaliation brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Florida Civil Rights Act, the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), as well as wage-and-hour issues and class/collective actions brought under the Florida Minimum Wage Act (FMWA) and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), federal and state whistleblower claims, and various breach of contract issues in both state and federal court. Melissa also litigates complex commercial and consumer claims, including those involving misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition, breach of restrictive covenants (non-compete and non-solicitation), defamation, tortious interference, and claims asserted under Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA).
